  Generic Name : Hyoscine

 

 Pronunciation : hyo·scine

 Trade Name(s) : BELLOID, BUSCOPAN

 Why it is prescribed: It is longer acting than atropine. It exerts antispasmodic action on smooth muscle of GI urinary & biliary tracts

 When it is to be taken: Adults: Tab: 10-20mg 3-5 times daily. Inj: 20mgs several times daily as required. Children: Tab: Over 6 years, 10-20mg, 3-4 times daily. Inj: Infants & young children: 5mg.

 How it should be taken: Inform your doctor if you have prostate hypertrophy with urinary retention, megacolon, GI mechanical stenosis etachycardia.

 Special Instruction : Anticholinergic effect. IV administration may lead to increased pulse rate, vision disturbances.

 Side Effects : The medication comes in the form of 10mg tablets, 1ml ampoule.

 Other Precautions : Do not use in case of pregnancy. Use with caution in lactation. May be used in reduced dose in old age.

 Storage Conditions : Store at room temperature.
